So, it's the 1st of the month, and I've turned to the final page of my 2012 calendar. It's sure to be a hectic month !! So much to do, so little time.....
I have to say it's been a pretty manic end to November for me, so I thought I'd take five and pop my head in to welcome all my new readers. How are the festive preparations going your end? They're pretty much non-existent here at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get into the spirit of things in the coming days. One thing I'm really looking forward to is decorating the house with colourful sparkly things. I bought plenty of lights last year, so once they're up I'm sure I'll feel all giddy with excitement.
On the hook this week are some little 4 round grannies. I decided to use Grey as the framing colour this time, what do you think? They're a bit rough round the edges, but they should be fine once blocked, and crocheted together with a simple slip-stitch.
I'm enjoying the gentle flow of creating piles of these colourful little treble crochet squares. Not taxing at all, perfect for those moments when you just want to hook away without putting in much effort.
Right, I'm off to do a few more! Wherever you are in the world, I hope you're having a fab weekend.
See you soon x x x
I like your grannies with the grey round the edge! Do you ever put up your patterns or sometimes do tutorials? You have such lovely things here!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Sandra
Hello Sandra, really glad you like the grey I've chosen. As for patterns and tutorials, I'm afraid I haven't ventured into that arena yet. I still consider myself a novice really, but will hopefully gain confidence to try some of my own ideas soon! So far most of my crochet has been inspired by 3 things, firstly the lovely Lucy at Attic24 http://attic24.typepad.com/ I'm sure you must be a follower of her wonderful blog?! You may recognise the neat ripple and granny stripe I've pictured in my side bar? She's very generously provided detailed tutorials. Secondly, another real source of inspiration to me is Solveig's 'flowers in the snow' http://solgrim.blogspot.co.uk/2009/06/sirkel-i-kvadrat.html I sometimes adapt patterns to suit. I don't always follow them to the letter. If I find an element of a pattern too difficult, I'll substitute it for something a little easier. Finally, I bought a couple of Jan Eaton's crochet books online, and have utilised some of her patterns too. Thank you for being so complimentary about my work, it's a real boost xx
DeleteHello Sharron, that's kind of you to answer in such detail. It's really helpful if you say where you have found your inspiration. It also allows those who find your patterns so lovely to be able to seek out the appropriate tutorials which you mention. Thank you for the link to Solveig's 'flower in the snow' pattern. It's so beautiful and changes completely with each different background colour.
DeleteKeep up your lovely work!
I really like the soft colours on your cushion!
Gorgeous little grannies, I love that grey - really makes the other colours stand out!
ReplyDeleteVictoria xx
Thank you Victoria, I have to say it's made a nice change from using black or white as the framing colour! xx
DeleteI think the grey is a very good choice. It looks wintry.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah. It is in keeping with a winter theme, definitely x
DeleteI'm doing grey bordered grannies at the moment too. I'll look forward to seeing your finished project.
ReplyDeleteOh that's a coincidence! how fab that we're doing a similar project :) x
DeleteI think the grey is a great idea, it is very similar to black and white...it goes with anything! I am doing something quite similar with black borders and these are wonderful when you are working on a large project and need something to take your mind off of it for a while. I agree with Sandra, can you put up some tutorials as your creations are fantastic. Chel xx
ReplyDeleteHi Chel, I replied in some detail to Sandra's comment about tutorials. I'm really flattered that both of you have suggested I do some! Maybe one day soon I'll have my very own to show you :)
DeleteI agree the simplicity of granny squares is a welcome distraction when you're working on something more taxing. I enjoyed working a black border, as the colours really do pop...xx
I love your granny squares, the grey is perfect! Still no festive preparations over here as well :-) On December 6th we celebrate Sinterklaas (Saint Nicolas) here in Belgium, so we all leave a shoe with a carrot in it in front of the fireplace for his horse and hope for the best: a present, some chocolate and mandarines from the good man. If not, his helper Black Pete will put us in his bag and take us back to Spain (this is supposed to be a punishment, lol). Well, Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas) explains it better than I do ;-) Have a lovely day! xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Nanita, thanks for popping in to comment. Sinterklaas sounds like a lovely tradition. I can only imagine how wonderful it must be in Belgium this time of year xx
DeleteThe squares look awesome. Grey is one of my favourite colours... shame that hubby wanted a brown couch for our living room. Otherwise there surely would be a grey framed granny blanket in no time!
ReplyDeleteOMG I LOVE the grey with the brights! So gorgeous!!!!!! I found you on Pinterest! I knit tons and just started crocheting as well!
ReplyDeleteSimply amazing!!! <3<3 I love it!! What type of yarn are you using and hook size? The grey is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Teri, thanks for being so lovely. The yarn is Schachenmayr Catania, and I used a 3.5mm hook :)
