About Me

Hi there & welcome to Annie's Place. A place inspired by and named after my late Grandmother Annie. Somewhere I can be creative, and share my love for all things handmade. I like nothing better than sitting with hook & yarn, crafting something home spun & completely unique, or rustling up some yummy baked goodies. I live in a town with a beautiful embankment, situated on the River Great Ouse. You may know me as CosyKitty on Ravelry. Why not stop a while.....?!!

Somewhere over the rainbow.......

Those lyrics are so beautiful, aren't they? It has to be one of my all time favourite songs, along with the film, of course. From Judy Garland to Eva Cassidy, it spans the decades and generations.  Oh to be a child again, and see 'The Wizard of OZ' through fresh eyes. How magical that would be! I never tire of it, 'Lions and Tigers and Bears, on my....'

That brings me nicely to the theme of today's post, rainbows! or should I say rainbow inspired.  I know it's not everyone's bag, but I really love multi-coloured things.  Anything with lots of colour will usually catch my eye first. Funny thing is, my wardrobe consists mainly of darks. I do try and accessorize with colour though, especially scarves. My favourite shade of the moment would have to be Teal.

Around the home I like to place colourful bits and bobs. Not everywhere, just the odd thing here and there.

If I had my way I'd live in a house where every wall is painted white, and adorned with brightly coloured artwork. Speaking of colourful artwork, I know a lot of you will already know about the very talented Loretta Grayson. One thing I had on the top of my wish list for Christmas was one of her Backyard with Fireflies prints, and lucky ole me got what I wished for.

Mum & Dad (oops I mean Santa) kindly gifted me the large print. Now I just need to find the perfect frame for it.  I can't tell you how excited I was when the postman delivered it last week! It arrived safely to the UK from Australia, beautifully packaged. That's what I love most about purchasing from Etsy, that personal touch you don't get on the high street. I've admired Loretta's work for some time, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to finally receive it?! Oh, and did I mention Loretta's a rather gifted crocheter aswell?! you must check out her blog or Flickr stream!

Lots of my crochet work thus far has been rainbow inspired too.  My alter ego Colour Heaven would testify to that ;)

I just love getting lost in my own colourful world

  1. I so agree with you on having a colourful world and seem to love the same colours as you. Black is one colour that doesn't attract me, but I have to admit that your flower blanket on a black base is stunning!
Those words of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" are gorgeous. I'm so glad you put them up here and in rainbow colours too! I went to London to see "The Magician of Oz" in the theatre. It was INCREDIBLE! I went with a friend and we were totally transported into the magical story! It even 'snowed' in the theatre and the special effects of the huge storm (maybe a tornado) were incredible!

    1. I'm really glad that my colour burst flower blanket with the black has changed your opinion on using such a dark colour! and your trip to the theatre sounds really amazing. I always wondered how they'd recreate the tornado?!! I've seen a fair few west end shows, and I have to say each and everyone has been spectacularly put together. Nothing like it. Thank you Sandra for stopping by to read and comment :)

    2. I'm doing the border, very exciting! I've chosen this time for a nice wide border, but oh dear the yarn it eats! (well, that means I'll just have to order more soon, ahem) I'm hoping to have my Ta-dah pics on Ravelry next week :-)

  5. Your blog posts are always eye candy! That picture is really awesome as is your rainbow of Catania (how do you get along with it? I tried it, but somehow Catania - well all cotton but Catania in particular - and me simply don't click. Shame as the colours are sooooo nice!)

    1. Hi Maree, the Catania hasn't been a problem for me thus far. I've really taken to it, and because the colours are so amazing, it keeps me going back for more. The Rico Creative Cotton was a bit of a nightmare for me, as it's really 'splitty', but I kinda got used to handling it after a while. There's so many yarns I'd like to try but the expense can be such a barrier. Thank you for the positive words on the blog. So kind :)

  6. I LOVE the colourful afghan... it reminds me so much of the beautiful pieces my Gram used to make when I was a child.... wonderful memories :-)

I also adore Etsy--I completely agree with you about the personal touch that you just don't get elsewhere. Crafters are the best!

    1. Hey Leisa, thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely message! I'm really pleased that something you've seen here has evoked such warm memories of your Gram. Believe it or not, I've only been immersed in this crafty world for a couple of years now, and didn't even know about the wondrous world of Etsy, Folksy and the like before that. I'm a changed person for it, I can tell you. Do come by again :)
