I was up with the larks this morning, 5:45am to be precise. That's silly o'clock on a Saturday morning isn't it? but I just couldn't sleep any longer. So I decided to make the most of the quiet moments to compose an entry here at Annie's Place.
It's been bitterly cold of late, and I'm trying very hard to stave off the January blues by surrounding myself with small comforts. My parents were very generous at Christmas gifting me with a voucher for John Lewis, so at the first available opportunity I went to my local store for a browse.
Of course I headed straight for the second floor to explore their stocks of lovely yarn. I grabbed one of their trolley basket thingies because I knew I would need more than two hands to carry my woolly purchases. I felt like a kid in a candy store. You know what I mean don't you?
After several minutes squishing I opted to buy some Erika Knight Double Knit 100% Wool, and a complimentary selection of Debbie Bliss Blue Faced Leicester Aran, again 100% Wool. The subtle colour palette and uber softness was the main attraction. I've started a quick and easy project using a bobble stitch, but more on that next time.
I'm trying very hard not to graze all day, but whilst there's a nip in the air it's hard not to. I have to admit though that my wee treat of a large steaming hot cup of tea and cake feels like a real indulgence. My cute coaster says it all really.
I'm still enjoying the short days though. I love when 4 o'clock rolls around and the dark descends upon us. My colourful Cable and Cotton lights really come into their own, and create the perfect ambience for a cosy evening at home. I bought 2 sets at Christmas, one for me and one for my sister. I know a lot of you have them too. They're so pretty aren't they?
Well the sun is well and truly up now, and the day promises to be bright, cold and crisp. I'm not sure what the plan is yet, apart from I have a new bed to assemble. I keep procrastinating, but the two large boxes cluttering up my hallway are getting on my nerves now.
Till next time, I'm sending you best wishes
and happy days ahead.......xxxx
So nice to hear from you again. Love your life filled with yarn.
ReplyDeleteI wish for you a pleasant week end.
Thank you Monica, I do hope you're having a lovely week!
DeleteHello Sharron, good to hear from you! I sometimes wake early and enjoy the quiet house with some crochet time. The yarn you got with your parents vouchers look wonderful, I have some John Lewis vouchers.....
ReplyDeleteI hope you keep warm today and I look forward to seeing your bed made up, will you be making anew blanket for it? Sam xx
Hi Sam, not sure about a new blanket as I still have plenty of UFO's to keep me busy. I am sooooo slow. However, I'm sure something will come along to distract me as per usual. John Lewis is filled with lovely things, so get down there and spend spend spend xxx
DeleteBeautiful yarn, my daughter has some of those C&C lights in her bedroom! :) xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda, I think I'll be stocking up on some more yarn as I still have a few pounds left on my gift card. I bet your daughter loves the cosy feel the C&C lights give to her space..xxx
DeleteLove the colours of the yarn you picked. I've been told I look like one of the Bisto kids when I walk through the door of my local yarn shop. Hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, your Bisto comment did make me laugh! I think we're all the same!
DeleteI agree with the others - it was a delight to discover a new post from you this morning! Bonnie
ReplyDeleteHey Bonnie, that's very sweet of you to say! I appreciate it
DeleteSometimes waking up this early turns into a real treat. You lucky girl to be gifted with the voucher. I can just see the excitement of all that squishy yarn goodness to choose from. Your coaster is similar to a refrigerator magnet I have. It says "Life's too short, eat desert first!" :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Birgitta xx
I appreciate your kind words Birgitta. Early mornings can be the best time of day, especially when there's no pressure to do anything or go anywhere. I was very lucky indeed to receive a lovely voucher to spend on whatever took my fancy. I have a bit left over too, so I'll be making a second trip in the not so distant future. Keep eating that desert 'first', I'm with you! xxx
DeleteLovely to hear from you - I agree it is so cold isn;t it but your retail therapy seems to have warmed the heart xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle. The snow is falling outside my window as I type, and I'm all cosy inside. There's nothing better than a bit of retail therapy for sure, especially the woolly kind. Hope you're having a good day xx
DeleteHow wonderful to have a gift of the opportunity to go yarn shopping, it is so much fun isn't it! You have chosen some beautiful yarns. Hope that you have fun with them! xx

ReplyDeleteHey Jennifer, great to hear from you. I have a little project nearly off the hook that I will be sharing soon. Quick and easy, just how I like it. I am a bit of slow coach usually. The lights haven't been off since I bought them. They make me happy. Sending my best xx

ReplyDeleteLovely to know you enjoyed my latest entry here Lee. All those little things bring comfort this time of year. Although I should limit the cake intake! :)
DeleteLucky you, what a nice gift of your parents! I once got a voucher for a yarn shop because I helped a friend to check spellings of his thesis (it was a veery long thesis). It feels like heaven to be able to choose any yarn you like ignoring the price.
ReplyDeleteThe yarn you got looks really exquisite, soft and warm. I do not know the bobble stictch but it looks like an interesting pattern. What are you doing with it? I have never seen these lights before but they are really cheerful, I wonder if it is possible to get them here in Germany. Have a nice evening, Viola
Oh you are SO right Viola. Being able to browse and buy without worrying about the expense is bliss. How lovely of you to check your friend's thesis. A voucher well deserved in my opinion. I'll be sharing the bobble stitch project when I get a bit of time. I'm sure Cable and Cotton ship to Europe so those lights could be your's in no time if you decided to treat yourself! Have a great day, Sharron
DeleteHellloooo glad you are alive and well. You have some lovely yarn there. Jo x
