At the end of my last post I said I'd be back soon, and believe me I had every intention of fulfilling that promise. However my plans were well and truly scuppered when my desktop PC decided to finally give up the ghost. My trusty little Windows XP that I'd been using for the last 9 years decided it had had enough.
I pressed publish on my last blog entry and went off to do some grocery shopping. Upon my return I tried to power up my computer, but to my horror I was met with a blank screen and an error message telling me there was a missing or corrupt file. My heart sank as I realised this was not going to be an easy fix.
I won't bore you with the details, but it's safe to say this caused me much inconvenience & unavoidable expense. I suppose it's not all bad news though, as I'm now the proud owner of an all singing; all dancing shiny new model. I was quite happy pootling along with my old XP, yes it was slow and had limited capabilities, but it was sufficient enough for my needs. However I'm glad I was forced into upgrading my equipment and operating system, as it's just highlighted to me what I was putting up with for so long. Not only that but I hear XP will be unsupported by Microsoft as of April 2014, so maybe it was all a blessing in disguise.
Another good thing about being forced offline for a bit was my ability to get a lot more done at home. I utilised my time well, sorting, organising, and cleaning. It feels good to have a place for everything and everything in it's place.
Sadly I'm down to the dregs of my Schachenmayr Catania yarn, which I have used for many projects over the past year. I'm using up the odds and ends making some circles in squares, and joining them as I go. I really must invest in some more of this lovely cotton yarn. Perhaps I can factor it into the budget under essential supplies for health & well-being! Sometimes that's the only way we can justify the expense ;)
Thank you for all the comments you've left for me recently, and hello to each and every new reader that's bobbed by this last few weeks. I hope you make yourself at home here.

I am glad you are happy with your new computer. It is a nightmare when something expensive dies without notice and you are met with the expense.
ReplyDeleteWhat glorious yarn photos. You are right that it definitely comes under the 'well-being' budget :)
lovely to see you back Sharron! What a pain about the comp, but great that you have a new toy to play with! Beautiful pictures as always!
ReplyDeleteyou have some great pics on your site. very nice!
ReplyDeleteA new comp is never a bad thing! Lovely colourful pictures. x
ReplyDeleteI do like trying to get used to new computers and the way they run....but when they go down..they go down and it is more economical to replace them than to fix them..we are becoming such a throw away world..I am glad to see you back.
ReplyDeleteHello sharron and welcome back, you have utilised your off-line time very well, I love it when everything is ship shape and I can find things without wondering where they might be lol.
ReplyDeleteHello to your new comp too, I have three dead Laptops in the bottom of my wardrobe (not all mine to be honest) and I do agree with Vikki, very often a repair is a false economy. The laptop I'm currently using is about three years old now and the screen light broke last summer. It was a simple fix and cost less than £20 but only because a techy friend knew what was wrong with it and ordered a replacement part for me.
I love your blog, bright cheery and welcoming, such beautiful colours in your projects and your photo's are a delight.
Bye for now x

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your pc woes are over. Computers are both a blessing and a curse for me, they drive me mad when they don't do what I want them to do but without them I wouldn't have been able to learn to crochet, sew and all sorts of other things, not to mention finding lovely blogs like yours. That yarn looks gorgeous, yarn is an essential not a luxury.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharron, welcome back. Sorry to hear you've had problems with your computer, don't they just drive you to distraction when they go wrong! Hope you're pleased with your new one - you did well to get 9 years out of the old one. I took a leaf out of your book a while ago and ordered some Catania cotton from a link you'd shared; it's lovely to work with and such an amazing range of colours, so thank you for sharing. Essential supplies for health and well-being is definitely justified in my book, especially after all the trouble with your old computer! Have a lovely week.
