Hi there & welcome to Annie's Place. A place inspired by and named after my late Grandmother Annie. Somewhere I can be creative, and share my love for all things handmade. I like nothing better than sitting with hook & yarn, crafting something home spun & completely unique, or rustling up some yummy baked goodies. I live in a town with a beautiful embankment, situated on the River Great Ouse. You may know me as CosyKitty on Ravelry. Why not stop a while.....?!!

Colourful Christmas Cross Stitch

Hey there lovely people, it's a wonderfully crisp frosty day here. Waking up to a dusting of snow was really exciting. I love it when there's not a cloud in the sky, and it's the bluest of blues. Makes me want to pile on the layers and venture out to enjoy it. From the inside looking out you could be deceived into thinking it was a warm sunny day! If it wasn't for the starkness of the trees and the obvious icy hue to everything, you could be easily fooled!!

I wanted to share with you the fruits of my latest crafty labour. This time in the form of some festive cross stitch.  It's something I decided to try on a whim. As a young teen I was a big fan of 'Forever Friends', a range of cards and gifts all centred around a cutesy little bear.I soon amassed quite a collection of bits & bobs, from sweet little trinkets to the adorable teddy bears themselves.

I don't think I ever really grew out of it! So when I happened upon a cross stitch kit from the same brand, I couldn't resist snapping it up. I'd never attempted cross stitch before but was willing to give it go. It took a bit of time to get used to reading the pattern, but once you're into the swing of things, it's really quite easy. Would you like to see how I got on?

Here's a few detailed shots

and the final result is this......

I decided it should have pride of place on my craft shelf,
so I bought a simple white frame with a plain
aperture to display it.

I'm really rather chuffed with my small piece of cross stitch art,
and would encourage everyone to have a go x x x

  1. This is your first attempt? Wow, I am very impressed. Love the cute bear.
    Hugs to you,

  2. Dear Sharron
Congratulations on your lovely festive cross stitch picture. I like the idea of cross stitch but don't think I have the patience!
    Best wishes

  3. Oh! I just love cross-stitch and before I became passionate about crochet I spent hours doing cross-stitch and made masses of framed gifts for friends and family! Your bear pattern is just lovely and I love the robin on the red Royal Mail box!
When the Christmas crochet is over, I may just make something for myself in cross-stitch - before, it was only ever for presents for others!

  4. This is so cute! I don't have the patience for this either, but I applaude yours. This is really stunning :) It looks cute enough to cuddle!
    Happy holidays to you.

  5. A beautiful picture and well done on your first attempt.

  6. I really like your adorable cross-stitch. I find it very relaxing -- but I find anything with yarn relaxing! I just had the cataracts removed from my eyes and look forward to picking up counted cross stitch again. Should be easier with *good* eyes!

    1. Thank you for popping in to leave some kind words. I just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you can resume the crafts you love soon x

  7. very, very, VERY Cute! Raphaele xx

  8. What beautiful cross stitch!
    Victoria xx

  9. I think this cross stitch is wonderful, well done x

  10. Awww, how utterly cute!! :-) xxxx

  11. Sharron, I have been an admirer of yours for quite some time now. I have just recently found your blog and am happy to follow you.

I must say, while your technical work is beautiful, it's really your color choices that sets your work apart from others. You really have an eye for color. Anyone can pick out colors, but it's the hue that is so important. I think you know what I mean. Well done on all your projects.

p.s. I have a very similar pic of my Grandma taken in Edinburgh!

    1. Hi Sheila,

I'm overwhelmed by your generosity. I can't tell you how much it means!! x

      Merry Christmas

p.s. my Granny is Scottish, how strange?!!

  12. My goodness, your first attempt??? You are one talented lady. It took me at least a few months to get the swing of the counting and to turn out something decent. I absolutely love counted cross stitch. It is my first love of crafty things and that little bear is so adorable. Good job!!!

  13. Thank you Meredith, Ellie, Sandra, a creative being, Irene, Raphaele, Victoria, MeMeRose, Kate, Nanita, Robyn, and Grammy Braxton! It thrills me that you would take time to comment. I look forward to reading each and every one.

Christmas wishes to one and all x x x x

  14. This is amazing especially as it's your first attempt! I can't see to cross stitch anymore so have turned to crochet and that's how I found your wonderful blog! Xx

Thank you for visiting me here at Annie's Place, and for taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate each and every word x x x
