It's very nearly farewell February and hello March. Today felt much more spring like, I think I may have gotten a decent dose of Vitamin D whilst out pootling around this afternoon. It was surprisingly warm in the sunshine. Well I say warm, truth be told it's probably at most 7 degrees but it feels quite considerably milder than recent days.
I finally managed to book in a much needed hair appointment too which was nice, I feel human again. So after being pampered a while, I thought I'd take a little wander round the shops, stopping off at my local Barnardo's charity shop for a nosey. I love having a browse in charity shops, you never know what you might find, and if I do spend anything I feel good about it as I know it's going to a good cause.
I also picked up a bunch of mixed Chrysanthemums. It was the lovely vibrant green that drew me to them, so I just had to take some home with me.
I thought you might like a peek at what's currently on my hook. I decided to pick out all the pastels in my Catania Cotton collection to crochet up some mini squares. I'm pretty certain (at this point) that they'll become a cushion cover. The inspiration came from the Pin Stripes pattern (37) page 52 in the Jan Eaton book 200 Crochet blocks. Referring only to the first 4 rounds, as I wanted to achieve a small solid square. I'm pretty pleased with how they've turned out so far.
One last thing, don't forget it's Mothering Sunday on the 10th March this year. Earlier than usual, so thought I'd give you a heads up. I mentioned it to my hairdresser today and she didn't have a clue it was so soon, so was grateful that I reminded her. It happens to be my Mum's birthday on the same day, so I guess it's only right she's doubly spoilt.

Your squares are really really beautiful. Such lovely colours and I love the design. I will have to buy the book! Your flowers are gorgeous too. It was so grey here today but in the afternoon the sun appeared as if by magic and the smiles shone on everyone's faces. Ahh, Barnardo's, I used to work in their head office in Barkingside just before the orphanage village closed. Happy days. Take care. Chel.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharron, what method are you using to join your squares together? Looks really neat. Love the sweet colours x
ReplyDeleteHi Sam,
DeleteI'm slip-stitching them, reverse sides together, outer loops only, so that I achieve a raised seam on the right side. Lucy's tutorial http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-granny-sqaures.html should help you, but just bear in mind she's showing you with the raised seem on the wrong side, just flip it if you want it to look similar to mine. Hope that makes sense?! :)
Great looking squares. Loving the pale colours. Isn't Jan Eaton's book fabby?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, and stunning crochet. The soft pastel colours are gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteThis blanket is so beautiful! The colors are serene and peaceful. Very inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful, soft squares... the piece looks so cozy! I am so jealous of your charity shop ramble... when I lived in Edinburgh I haunted the charity shops almost weekly--I always found the most amazing things! And often crafting/yarnwork/sewing books, tools, and materials... Sadly they don't exist the same way here in Miami. I miss them! Thank you for bringing back some great memories :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are still having some very yucky, cold wheather here, I am becoming very desperate for some sunshine! Your tiny solid squares are just beautiful, the soft colours are perfect together :-) xxxx
ReplyDeleteThese colors are so beautiful! A pillow from this Grannys probably looks quite dreamy. Best wishes from germany

Hello Sharon, I just discovered you lovely blog. Your Spring flowers are very lovely. Just what we need on a coolish day. Your pastel Mimi blocks are very beautiful. Love them. I hope to start my first crochet blanket soon. I have bought many lovely pastel colors of Spring. Have a great week. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteLovely colors. What type of wool is it? I always seem to pick the wrong types!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely beautiful! Your colour choices are so nice? I am thinking a new cushion in the spare room - would you mind sharing colour choices here? Xx
ReplyDeleteLove these colors and the crochet pattern. The yarn looks like it has a soft sheen to it that is beautiful
ReplyDeleteHi there Annie's Place! I have saved your pastel squares for months now and I have decided to finally use your colors with that pattern you used from that book! I think I can 'wing' it! My question for you is: Do you not have a bad back? lol.. I LOVE to crochet or sew (or cook, bake, design, etc.) but I have a terrible back and making one 3-day blanket always puts me out for days! It's worth it, but I was just curious. Happy Crocheting!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful crochet squares. I have some miniature squares which my mother made. I keep putting them away then coming across them and saying, "I must make something with these." They are so delicate I hesitate to make a cushion cover with them, my cats claws catch in everything. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, just wanted to say how lovely your crochet blanket is. I love it very much, you have given me an idea for some wool that i have..😇😆
ReplyDeleteEu adorei essa manta dos square coloridos mas não achei o gráfico em lugar nenhum pode me dizer onde acho..obrigado
