Hi there & welcome to Annie's Place. A place inspired by and named after my late Grandmother Annie. Somewhere I can be creative, and share my love for all things handmade. I like nothing better than sitting with hook & yarn, crafting something home spun & completely unique, or rustling up some yummy baked goodies. I live in a town with a beautiful embankment, situated on the River Great Ouse. You may know me as CosyKitty on Ravelry. Why not stop a while.....?!!

Stripy cushion ta-dah!

That quote I've taken from the latest edition of Ideal Home magazine
really sums up how I feel about my latest cushion cover project.

A happy coincidence that featured on page 85 there is a 2 page spread on how to mix tonal greys with pink. Strange how you can come up with your own idea for a project, pick a colour scheme, and then see it underscored in print in one of your favourite home magazines. Subliminal maybe?

I thoroughly enjoyed the ease of this project. I just striped away creating two panels of treble crochet. 49 rows in total, randomly selecting colours as I went. Making sure I counted 68 stitches to each row, so that it would be even all the way through. That's the only thing I hate about working in rows, I often lose track of how many stitches I've got and end up in a mess. Thankfully this time I made a conscious effort to count, so no mishaps.

I wanted the reverse to be a more block colour, hence just using the dusky pink & light grey, with a couple of stripes in White. I think it works really well. I framed each panel in a row of half trebles to neaten everything up, before proceeding to crochet them together. Leaving one side open to finish off using a button edge. I made 16 button holes on the front panel, and stitched 16 cute white buttons to the reverse. Popped in my cushion pad and voila, one neat little project complete. Happy, much.....

Thank you for all the wonderful comments and messages recently

  3. Oh now that is lovely - I love the attention to detail with your buttons. I've never tried Tunisian crochet but that lovely uniform finish is tempting me to give it a go. Well done x Jane

    1. Thanks for stopping by Jane, it's not actually Tunisian crochet, just simple treble crochet. I think Matt over at 'According to Matt' has just finished a stripy tunisian crochet cushion. Maybe you got us mixed up? :)

  14. Oh my goodness, that is gorgeous. I love the fact that the front and back are different so you can swap them round depending on what you fancy. I have some wool for a cushion that i have been faffing with for ages. I think it might just have to be a stripey one now :-)

  17. Ooo it looks even better finished! I love the way they are all random widths, I'm far too controlling to be able to do random widths, I'd just be too scared it would work! Where do you make your photo collages, I love the way you get several photos without it dominating the post. Can't wait to see what you make next.

    1. Believe me, I'm a control freak too but I've managed to embrace the random! You should try it, you might surprise yourself! :) As far as the photo collages go I've got a very old program on my (ancient) pc called 'Microsoft Picture It! Photo Standard 9'. I just mess about on there creating projects out of my pics. I don't use any online photo hosting sites, I just plod along with that :)

Thank you for leaving a comment x

    2. I ask you too many questions... BUT... How do you work your rows? I'm currently making a stripey blanket, and its going ok, but I wondered how you do your turns? I'm doing a new method that'll hopefully eliminate the holes that can happen when you edge, but my stripes appear fatter at the edges than the middle (hoping its just a tension thing) I may embrace the random for my next project! Can't wait to see what you make next :-)
